Position Summary: The Graduate Art Therapy Intern works as part of the Therapeutic Services Team and has the opportunity to provide direct service/therapy to the following clients: adult survivors of rape, incest, or other sexual assaults; child, adolescent, and youth survivors of rape, incest, or other sexual assaults; secondary survivors (family members, guardians, friends, loved ones, etc.) of survivors of sexual assault; and survivors in support groups. Responsibilities Include: Required opportunities: - Participate in and successfully complete 40-hour Direct Services Volunteer Training to acquire skills in: crisis intervention, hotline advocacy, hospital advocacy, justice system advocacy, community education (for those interns who will be doing direct service)
- Provide face to face individual therapy (need to be available for appointments at least one evening per week and at least ? of your scheduled hours should be client contact hours)
- Hotline experience: 2 hours on the hotline each week. Please schedule your shift(s) weekly with the hotline coordinator
- Observe a community education presentation
- Observe a hospital advocacy in-service/training
- Attend an Open Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting
- Attend Therapeutic Services Team meetings
- Facilitate at least one Therapeutic Services Team meeting
- Present case study/topic discussion during a Therapeutic Services Team meeting
- Attend a community meeting, conference or workship
- Participate in the Girls Kick Butt! Program as a co-facilitator
- Student will be expected to cover the business telephone line and/or 24-hour hotline during staff only meetings
- Student will be invited to attend and participate in agency staff meetings at the discretion of the Executive Director
- Engage in an exit interview with the Internship Coordinator and Therapeutic Services Team supervisor to give and receive feedback regarding your experience as an intern
Optional Opportunities: - Accompany an advocate on a hospital call
- Tour the Justice Center, observe a trial, and/or attend a parole board hearing accompanied by a Justice System Advocate
- Observe a justice system advocacy intake meeting (with prior approval from the client)
- Provide hospital advocacy (requires 4 hours of additional volunteer training). Hospital advocacy can be done on a volunteer basis only. Hours cannot be counted toward internship/field placement unless the hours exceed the requirement/expectation of your graduate program.

- Co-facilitate a support group with another professional staff member (available during second semester of internship)
Qualifications: This position requires a mature, self-motivated individual who is both hard working and has the desire to become part of a movement to end sexual violence. We are seeking creative students pursuing graduate studies in art therapy. The following are more specific qualifications: - Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Publisher
- Graduate coursework and clinical field experience in art therapy
- Must be a self-starter with ability to communicate effectively with staff and work autonomously with the direction of a supervisor
- Desire to work collaboratively with entire staff and learn multiple functions in different areas of the agency
