Create! is a volunteer led initiative at Walsall Manor Hospital. Create! offers patients and visitors opportunities to participate in creative activities whilst they are in hospital.  Minimum of a 2 hour shift, once a week for a minimum 10 week period.

Description of tasks

  • Introduce creative activities to patients and encourage participation.
  • Offer a range of creative activities allowing people to develop their own creativity.
  • Provide normalising experiences and conversation for patients and visitors.
  • Develop arts activities which are inclusive and appropriate to the needs of the person.
  • Develop, research and plan creative activities and worksheets.
  • Select materials required for activities from those available.
  • Assist in basic cleaning of materials after each session.
  • Assist in displaying artwork produced. 
  • Participate in the evaluation of the project.

 Person Specification

  • Appreciation of the importance of:
  • Holistic care and providing patients and visitors with normalising experiences in a hospital environment.
  • People of all ages accessing creativity.
  • Ability to work with a range of people in a busy working environment.
  • Knowledge of the various needs and emotions experienced by people who are attending hospital.                                                                                          
  • Willingness to think creatively and design different activities.
  • Experience of contributing to teamwork.
  • Fun and positive outlook to work and education.
  • Interest in working in a healthcare environment.

Being part of the Create! team is an invaluable experience for those who would like to develop skills working with people in healthcare settings and particularly those who have an interest in the arts and health field.
